According to Cobra, the LD (Limit Dimensions) driver has golf’s largest clubface. Pushing the limits of clubhead size set by the USGA help this club generate a massive Moment of Inertia (MOI) for faster ball speed and longer, straighter drives. The real benefit of a high MOI is reducing the dispersion of your drive from [...]

February 1st, 2008 — Club Reviews, new york from Scott @ Drive, Chip, Putt - Everything About Golf
Ravenwood Golf Club is a great public golf course on the outskirts of Rochester, NY. This course provides a reasonable experience for the casual golfer while being challenging even for low handicappers. It’s undulating greens, well manicured fairways, and deep soft sand traps make playing this course a great experience. If you’re a walker, beware, the course is very hilly and you will be in for quite a workout!
Hole Descriptions
1. This course begins with a par 4 that has a nice downhill tee shot. You want to aim for the right side of the fairway with your drive. Being near the large sand trap on the right gives you an opening to reach the green on your second shot. This green is large and most putts seem to move towards the front of the green.
2. This short par 4 is more difficult than it looks from the tee because the elevated green is surrounded by bunkers.
3. This par 4 is a dog leg left with a large pond along the left side of the hole. Play it safe and aim for the right side of the fairway off the tee.
4. Hole 4 is the longest par 3 on the course although it does have a large green. When approaching the green beware of the bunkers surrounding it.
5. This long par 4 is the most difficult of the course. This hole is entirely uphill and it has 3 fairway bunkers along the right side. When you finally get there, you will be faced with a relatively flat green.
6. This is the first par 5 on the course and it plays downhill with fairway bunkers on the right side. Your second shot will need to factor in a small creek and trees that help protect the green along with a large bunker.
7. This is another short par 4 playing only 289 yards from the Men’s tees. Be careful with your approach shot because the front left side of the green slopes off into a “catch-all” area and the back right corner of the green has a slight slope away from the green.
8. On this par 3, beware of the wetland area off the a tee and off the large two tier green.
9. Finish the front 9 with a dogleg left par 5 is a true test of length and accuracy. If you try to cut the corner with your drive beware of the fairway bunkers on the left. When approaching the elevated green, take care to avoid hitting over the green.
10. On the back nine you will start with this par 4. Avoid the large bunker on the right and you’ll have a clear shot at the level green.
11. On this par 4, you can really try to hit your drive because there is not much trouble off the tee. Just make sure to avoid going over the green on your next shot.
12. This par 5 is the longest hole on the course. After driving out to a large landing area, you’ll want to make sure your next shot clears the bunkers down the left side of the fairway. Fortunately, this green is large and forgiving to give you a reasonable chance of hitting it.
13. On this par 4 avoid the bunkers on the right hand side. There are no green side bunkers, but there are mounds to the left front of the green.
14. This par 3 isn’t too long but it requires a careful tee shot over the large lake. If you clear the water, you need to avoid ending up in the bunkers behind the green.
15. This par 4 is is very narrow and challenging. Your second shot will be long and uphill towards a large green protected by bunkers on the front left and right.
16. This par 4 is much shorter than hole 15 but still challenging. This hole requires your drive to carry over wetlands and a kidney shaped green is tucked behind a large bunker to the front left.
17. This par 3 has water to the front and right of the green.
18. Your day at Ravenwood will finish with a par 5 that doglegs right. The green is tucked into the woods with a hill behind it. There are also seven bunkers guarding the green and approach area. Once on the green, you will encounter a fairly level putting surface.

January 5th, 2008 — Club Reviews from Scott @ Drive, Chip, Putt - Everything About Golf
The Cleveland Launcher Ti460 is a 460cc driver that is one of the best all around drivers we have ever used. Although the club is not brand new to the market (almost 3 years old now) it is still a great club for golfers of all levels.
One of the great things about this club being a bit older is that its price has dropped significantly in the last year. This club is very forgiving on mishits and amazing on great swings. The large 460cc club head is also useful in reducing the likelihood of mishits. With this club you can definitely expect to add a few extra yards to your drive. This club is available in 7.5, 8.5, 9.5, 10.5, 11.5 degree lofts and comes with a Cleveland Launcher Silver Graphite shaft standard. If any of our readers have used this club, please let us know what you think in the comments.

New Clubs Cheap!
April 3rd, 2007 — Club Reviews, Deals, how to from Scott @ Drive, Chip, Putt - Everything About Golf

If you’re looking to buy new clubs this year, we have some great advice on where to find great deals. Pretty much anywhere! If you’re not a professional golfer and you play the game just to have a great time and enjoy the game, don’t fall for the hype and purchase the latest and greatest models.
I was in the market for a new driver this year and I really enjoyed the Cleveland Hibore XL (which we reviewed here) but I also decided to try the Cleveland Launcher 460 Driver as well. I found that I hit the Launcher Driver almost as well as I hit the Hibore XL. With the Hibore XL I did get a few more yards out of my drives but I feel that I can make up those yards by hitting a well placed iron shot after my drive. Not only was the quality of the launcher similar to the Hibore XL but the Launcher was half price since it was last year’s model.
Many people will find the newest models of clubs (and the extra 10 yards or whatever other technical breakthrough is promised by the manufacturer) very useful and this advice is not for them. But, if you just enjoy the game of golf and need some new equipment, try out last year’s models and find yourself a great deal.

I’m currently in the market for a new driver and I’ve already tried the Nike Sumo2 and the Callaway FT-i so I decided to give a more traditional driver a shot. I tested the Cleveland Hibore XL Driver with the Fujikura shaft and I absolutely loved it.
It doesn’t exactly look like a traditional driver from the top view but it is much closer to a traditional driver than the new square head clubs. But, who really cares about looks if it helps you improve your game? I was hitting the ball further and straighter much more consistently than I usually do. The club was also very forgiving on mishits, just as Cleveland advertises. I also loved the sound of the driver - it wasn’t ridiculously loud like the Sumo2 but you could really tell when you hit the ball well by the audible feedback of the club. If you’re in the market for a new driver, you can buy the Cleveland Hibore XL here from Amazon.com.

March 5th, 2007 — Club Reviews from Karl @ Drive, Chip, Putt - Everything About Golf
Since I recently tested the Nike Sumo driver I figured that I should give the other square driver on the market a try. It didn’t take me too long to make my decision about this club. I thought that compared to the Nike Sumo this was a much better club. I hit about 10 to 15 balls with it and just about every one went dead straight. I was also able to work the ball a little bit when I tried to. I also like the way this club sets up to the ball much better than I did with the Sumo. It seems that the square shape is a bit less bothersome at address. One of my main complaints about the Sumo was the sound that it produced at impact, this club sounds just like you would expect it to, like a golf club and not like an aluminum baseball bat. The only real drawback about this club is the fact that it costs 500 dollars. But on a scale based on performance I would rate it a 4.5/5.
Nike Sumo2 Review
February 23rd, 2007 — Club Reviews from Karl @ Drive, Chip, Putt - Everything About Golf
After reading about this club I figured I might as well give it a try. After hitting a about three balls I had already made my decision on the club.
I would never ever buy this club, I will even go as far to say that if someone gave it to me I would tell them to return it and get their money back. I hated this club. The sound that it produces is ungodly. I know that having the weight distributed around the outside of the club will give it more forgiveness, but why make the club look like a box on a stick? It does however seem very forgiving, just like Nike says, and because of that you can forget about working the ball off the tee with this club. If you are a lower handicapper this club is not for you. If you are looking for a club that will allow you to hit the ball straight no matter how bad your swing is or where you hit the ball on the club face then this club is for you.
Mizuno MP-R Wedge Review
February 19th, 2007 — Club Reviews from Karl @ Drive, Chip, Putt - Everything About Golf
After buying a set of Mizuno MP 32 irons I decided that I might as well give their new wedges a try. I figured I was in need of new wedges since it has been sometime since I have purchased a new set, so why not try these. I went out to the local pro shop and took out a few different lofts and bounce angles. I eventually decided to get a 52 with 7 degrees of bounce, a 56 with 10 degrees of bounce, and a 60 with 9 degrees of bounce.
This club comes in a chrome finish as well as a black nickel finish. The black nickel finish is pretty cool but they didn’t have all the wedges in stock with it so I settled on the chrome.
These wedges are by far the best wedge I have ever hit. The feel that they have is consistent with all the Mizuno grain flow forged clubs. Very soft and tons of feedback. I think that the thing that I was most impressed with was the fact that I was stopping shots on the ground of an indoor driving range. Keep in mind that under the green rug at this place is a slab of concrete, I can only image what they will do when they hit a real green. Great great club would recommend to anyone. You can buy any of these wedges here at Amazon.com.

February 14th, 2007 — Club Reviews from Karl @ Drive, Chip, Putt - Everything About Golf
Recently I purchased a set of Mizuno MP 32’s. After trying out just about every player’s iron I could find I made the choice to get these. The Mizuno MP 32’s are a blade style iron in Mizuno’s cut muscle line of irons. They offer more forgiveness than a true blade iron does which is very nice for those mis-hits. When trying these out it didn’t take me to long to figure out that these were the clubs for me. I just wish I would have tried these first because it would have saved me the time of trying all the others. The feel at contact with these clubs is great. You know when you hit a great shot and you also know when you hit a bad shot just from the feeling you get. These clubs allow you to easily work the ball left or right. They also have pin point accuracy, which is a must for any golfer. I would highly recommend these for anyone who is a low handicapper. A++ buy. If you’d like to purchases these, you can get them here from Amazon.com.
